Apple will introduce new smartphones in just a few months, but the hype surrounding the upcoming devices does not cease. The jubilee flagship should get an OLED display from edge to edge, support for augmented reality and many other innovations that will mark the largest update in the history of the brand.
For the first time in many years, the question of the name of the next Apple smartphone remains open. According to rumors, this year the manufacturer will release three models: iPhone 7S, iPhone 7S Plus and premium version with 5.8-inch OLED-screen.
According to numerous sources, the high-class novelty can get the name iPhone 8. This is because the company will present a completely new form factor, and such a major update simply can not come out with the prefix "S".
More recently, there have been reports that the device will be called the iPhone Edition. If the manufacturer releases the iPhone 8 with the iPhone 7S and the iPhone 7S Plus, the other two models will appear obsolete. Calling a premium version of the "iPhone Edition" is a great way to release three smartphones at the same time, but do not alienate customers from more affordable options.
It's no secret that Apple has recently simplified the scheme for branded device names. Now there is no iWatch, iMusic or iTV - instead of them Apple Watch, Apple Music and Apple TV. Therefore, it is likely that the company will name the flagship of the "Apple iPhone" without any additional designations. The only problem is that the smartphone line is updated every year - there may be confusion when the next models are released.
Ken Segal, who has worked with Steve Jobs for a long time, recently published his own version of the smartphone naming scheme:.
-iPhone 8.
-iPhone 8 Plus.
-iPhone 8 Pro.
-iPhone 8 Mini.
Thus, users will be able to distinguish between standard, widescreen, advanced and compact versions of flagships. In addition, it makes sense at all to abandon the prefix "S", because such updates are usually perceived by users as minor.
If this year the manufacturer will release iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone 8 Pro, this will help streamline the models in the smartphone lineup. Only the name of the iPhone 8 mini looks somewhat questionable. Most likely, the company will keep the series iPhone SE.
