US federal appeals court overturned the decision of the jury, according to which Apple had to pay 533 million dollars in favor of Smartflash for patent infringement.

In February 2015, the company won Smartflash trial, dedicated to violation of Apple's patents in the development of software for its iTunes service. Smartflash demanded 852 million dollars compensation, but the court reduced the amount of payment.

In early July 2015, District Judge Rodney Gilstrap canceled a major fine for Apple, arguing that the jury was probably misled by recommendations on how to correctly determine the size of payments.

At the same time, the judge agreed that the jury rendered a legally correct decision, acknowledging Apple guilty of violating.

In July 2015 Apple asked the US Appeals Court to stop the court proceedings in patent litigation, but was refused. The new company's appeal was granted, so that the iPhone and iPad maker has delivered itself from payment of half a billion dollars.

The court found Apple innocent, explaining that Smartflash patents too "abstract" and do not have a clear description, to ensure their defense in court.
