In the ancient city of Assos, located in the north-west of Turkey, archaeologists made unique discoveries, reports Arkeonews. . . Such artifacts in Anatolia are extremely rare, and most of these finds are partially preserved. Researchers suggest that this mosaic is one of the most ancient samples of the monumental mosaic art of the Hellenistic period in the region. First, the building in which it was found could be a gymnasium, but in the Byzantine period it was converted into a residential building. .

Previously, it was mistakenly considered a fountain, however, excavations confirmed that this heroon is a monumental tomb, probably a noble family of the Association of the Roman Empire. In its greatness, the tomb resembles the famous tombstone of two brothers, located in the southern part. . This city, at different times, attracted philosophers, merchants and rulers, with each new artifact reveals more and more details about the life and culture of the ancient era. . .
