Japanese scientists came to a disappointing conclusion after comparing CT images in people with and without COVID-19 symptoms. After checking the images, 54% of the examined people who contracted the coronavirus but were asymptomatic had lung damage. This is stated in a study presented on the RSNA website.. An analysis of the medical data of 104 people aged 25 to 93 years with a diagnosis using the RT-PCR method was carried out among the passengers of the DiamondPrincess cruise ship, which at the beginning of the epidemic for a long time remained a major focus of SARS-Cov-2 after China. Of the 104 people, 76 did not show any symptoms of COVID-19, while the remaining 28 were recorded: temperature above 37.5, cough, shortness of breath and weakness. Scientists compared computed tomography images of the lungs in these two groups of patients and found pathological changes in each. “In people without COVID-19 symptoms, changes in lung tissue were observed in 54% of cases,” the scientists said.. In the second group, pathological changes in the lungs were more frequent and amounted to 79%. They showed an increase in lung tissue density and changes in the airways. “In asymptomatic patients, only changes in the type of“ frosted glass ”(83%) were more often observed, while people with characteristic signs of the virus were much more likely to have foci of consolidation in the lungs - the so-called airless tissue sites,” the study authors explained. While scientists can not explain the changes in the lungs in asymptomatic patients.

Previously, no such cases have been reported with Middle Eastern respiratory syndrome infection (MERS-CoV) or severe acute respiratory syndrome infection (SARS-Cov). Earlier, about another treatment method that could effectively treat seriously ill COVID-19 patients, the correspondent was told by the head of the scientific department of intensive care and detoxification at the Gromashevsky Institute of Infectious Disease Epidemiology of Ukraine NAMS of Ukraine Sergey Borschev.
