Scientists have studied tissue samples of patients with this type of cancer and found that they have increased the level of protein UFD1 (Ubiquitin-fusion degradation). The artificial decrease in the activity of genes responsible for the synthesis of UFD1 not only reduced the protein level, but also stopped the growth of the tumor. On the condition of healthy tissues, the intervention did not affect.

As explained by one of the researchers, PhD Hui Feng, to date, all the known methods of leukemia treatment remain very toxic and are difficult to tolerate by patients.

The detection of a relationship between the level of UFD1 and tumor growth gives hope for the development of a drug that will not harm healthy tissues.

Leukemia is a malignant disease of the hematopoietic system. With T-cell lymphoblastic leukemia, mortality rates reach 20 percent in children and 50 percent in adults.
