A group of scientists found that it is possible to reverse the process of vascular disruption in people with alcohol dependence. To do this, use the medication suppression of MiR-21 miRNA, writes MedicalXpress. The study notes that according to statistics, one in six adults drinks more than four times a month. Such people are more prone to the risk of cardiovascular disease. One researcher, Shane Phillims, notes that more and more young people are exposed to cardiovascular diseases.

In the study, involving 14 people aged 18 to 30, it was possible to establish a relationship between alcohol consumption and an increase in the level of MiR-21, a compound that is involved in blocking the activity of a number of genes that protect the body from cardiovascular disease and cancer. However, its suppression contributes to the restoration of normal operation of blood vessels in people who have alcohol dependence. Earlier it was reported that earlier scientists established a link between alcohol consumption and increased risk of cancer.
