A group of American scientists found that with the regular consumption of salt in food in excessive amounts, there may be changes in the immune system in the intestine. They, in turn, entail the degradation of human cognitive functions, writes Nature Neuroscience. In the course of the study, experts found that the abuse of sodium chloride for three weeks entails endothelial dysfunction, a reduction in cerebral blood flow and cognitive impairment.
In this case, the arterial pressure in a person does not change. It turned out that excessive intake of salt increases the number of T-helper cells in the intestine 17, and at the same time - the production of interleukin-17 molecules. This affects negatively on the cerebral circulation. Scientists have conducted experiments on mice, but note that their results are relevant for humans. Earlier reported that the researchers found unexpected harm from fast food.
