Candidiasis, known as thrush, is found not only in women, but also in men. This disease is caused by mushrooms of the genus Candida and can affect the mucous membranes, skin and even internal organs. In men, candidiasis is most often manifested in the genital area, causing unpleasant symptoms, such as itching, burning and white plaque.
One of the frequent causes of infection is unprotected sexual contact with an infected partner. However, a fungal infection can develop independently with a decrease in immunity, impaired intestinal microflora or antibiotics. It is important to consider that treatment is necessary not only to a man, but also by his partner, otherwise there is a risk of re -infection.
When choosing the treatment scheme, concomitant diseases are taken into account. For example, candidiasis is more common in people with diabetes, diseases of the gastrointestinal tract or chronic infections. Risk factors also include a long -term intake of hormonal drugs and cytostatics. Weakened immunity creates favorable conditions for the reproduction of mushrooms, therefore, in treatment it is important to take into account the strengthening of the body's defenses.
The basis of therapy is the local use of antifungal agents. Creams and ointments containing clitrimazole, nystatin or pimafucin are applied to the affected areas 2-3 times a day for 10 days. For this period it is recommended to refrain from sexual activity to avoid skin irritation and re -infection.
If the disease has acquired a chronic form, local treatment may not be enough. In such cases, antifungal drugs are prescribed for oral administration, for example, fluconazole (150 mg once with a repeat after a week) or itraconazole (200 mg twice a day for one day).
These drugs have a systemic effect and help eliminate infection not only on the surface of the skin, but also inside the body.
Prevention of candidiasis includes maintaining normal immunity, proper nutrition and compliance with personal hygiene. It is also important to avoid uncontrolled antibiotic intake, which disrupt the balance of microflora and create conditions for the growth of fungi. When the first symptoms of candidiasis appear, consult a doctor in a timely manner in order to prevent the development of complications.
