Work in night shifts, according to scientists, can significantly affect the health of workers, increasing the risk of cardiovascular diseases, such as heart attack and stroke. Recent studies conducted with the participation of more than 2 million people from Canada and Norway confirm the connection between night work and the deterioration of the health of the heart and blood vessels.

As a study conducted as part of 34 major studies, employees working on a night shift are at greater risk of developing various heart disease compared to those who work according to traditional schedule. Scientists have found that such workers suffer 23% more often from heart attacks, 24% more often develop coronary diseases, and in 5% of cases of their life threatens a stroke. Studies also showed that night shifts violate the biological hours of the body, which negatively affects the general state of health.

Work at night leads to sleep disturbance, insufficient nutrition and a change in habits, which, in turn, increases the likelihood of developing heart disease and vessels. It is known that people working in night shifts often suffer from insomnia and anxiety, which has a pernicious effect on the body. Violation of the sleep and nutrition regime can lead to an increase in body weight, an increase in stress levels and metabolic disorders, which is one of the risk factors for cardiovascular diseases.

According to the study, among more than 17 thousand workers with a reflective schedule, 6,598 cases of heart attack and 1,854 cases of stroke were recorded. These data emphasize how dangerous the night labor for the health of the cardiovascular system can be. Studies also took into account various factors, such as age, gender, level of education, socio-economic status and nutrition habit, which confirms the significance of the regime of health for health.

Scientists argue that the problems associated with the work into night shifts are not limited only to a violation of biological rhythms.

Night shifts can also lead to dependence on stimulants and sedatives, problems in social life and an increase in the number of errors at the workplace, which increases the risk of accidents.

Earlier in 2007, scientists have already warned about a possible increase in the risk of cancer development among workers engaged in night shifts, which once again emphasizes the importance of revising the work schedules in order to improve the health of workers. This study was another step towards understanding how the working mode is important to maintain health and prevent diseases.
