Blue light emitted from our smartphones and other similar technology prevents a person from sleeping properly and worsens the quality of sleep, say scientists from the University of Haifa and Assuta Sleep Clinic.

This study also helped to establish that screens that emit red light did not cause damage, and sleep was normal after exposure.. Professor Abraham Heim says: “The light that is emitted from screens, including computers, smartphones, tablets, and so on, is blue light, which can disrupt sleep cycles and our body”.

Nineteen healthy respondents took part in the experiment, their age ranged from twenty to twenty-nine years, they did not suspect anything about the purpose of the study..

It turned out that blue light, on average, reduces the duration of sleep by sixteen minutes..

It also reduces our body's production of melatonin, with red light eliciting similar melatonin levels when the respondent is not affected by the light..

The authors of the work explain that if the production of melatonin is disrupted, the natural mechanisms and biological clock of the human body are disrupted.. But the most harmful effect of blue light exposure is the disruption of sleep cycles and its interruption..
