The ban, which is part of nationwide restrictions aimed at stopping the spread of the coronavirus, was introduced by the previous government of Giuseppe Conte and was due to end on Thursday..

Mario Draghi's new government has also tightened restrictions on visiting friends and relatives, according to which no more than two adults can visit another person's home..

"

The ban applies to all optional travel between all regions, regardless of the zone in which they are located according to the multi-level system of restrictions in Italy.

The regional travel ban does not apply to travel for work, health or emergencies, or those in need of travel to return home.

Travel within Italy for tourism remains banned.

The government also extended the rule that no more than two adults (plus their children under 14) can visit another household and no more than once a day.. However, the rule does not apply to areas declared as red zones, which means that these areas will no longer be allowed such visits at all..
