Researchers at the Institute for Immunity, Transplantology and Infectious Diseases (Stanford) have developed a blood test that determines the presence of heart disease in patients without symptoms.

The test detects a response of the immune system to inflammation associated with age-related diseases such as dementia and arthritis, showing cytokines.

It is known that at a certain age, the activity of the immune system, and hence the level of cytokines in the blood, decreases, which is why elderly patients do not respond to the flu vaccine, unlike young.

A low level of cytokines in the blood stimulates the process of chronic inflammation - scientists can now determine it using a test, therefore, a person with a level of cytokines below the norm will automatically fall into the risk group for heart diseases.
