Older people with severe vitamin D deficiency are at increased risk of developing dementia, say researchers at the University of Exeter Medical School, UK.

The study involved about 1,650 people aged 65 years and older.. None of the subjects at the beginning of the study did not reveal dementia and cardiovascular diseases.. The experiment participants were observed for six years.. Experts hoped to find a link between dementia and vitamin D deficiency, but did not expect it to be so strong.

Experts say it is too early to say that older people can take vitamin D as a preventive measure for dementia.. However, maintaining normal levels of vitamin D through diet and exposure to sunlight can help maintain health in the best condition..
