Israeli schools will not sell fat and sweet

The Education Committee of the Knesset approved nutrition rules that are expected to lead to a revolution in the nutrition of schoolchildren during classes.

The rules will come into effect in about three months, and within their framework owners of kiosks located on the territory of schools will not be able to sell most of the titles offered so far. This is reported by mignews. com.

Back in April 2016, the Ministry of Education announced a revolution in the field of school meals, imposing a ban on the sale on the territory of educational institutions of the so-called "unhealthy food". The ministers of education and health agreed on cooperation, the recommendations of the Ministry of Health were sent to schools, according to which "unhealthy" was considered fatty fried foods, fatty pastries, processed foods containing phosphates and nitrates (for example, sausages), food with a high sugar content somehow various sweets, cakes, cookies, bagels, wafers, sweets and the like.

The sale of fresh fruit and vegetable salads, yoghurts up to 3 percent fat content, flakes with a high content of dietary fiber, cooked vegetables, certain types of meat and fish (but not fried). As for drinks, it was strictly forbidden to sell to schoolchildren sweet drinks, juices, diet drinks, ground fruit ice and energy drinks.

According to the new rules, you can not sell ice cream, salty snacks (hatifim), chocolate bars, corn flakes, pizza, croissants, candy, ground fruit ice, cookies, hamburgers, sausages, sweet and diet drinks in schools. In addition, you can not use ketchup or mayonnaise, add sugar to drinks and dishes. Will be sold only bread from whole wheat or whole grains.

The Ministry of Education allows the sale of low-fat, non-sugar yoghurts, freshly squeezed juices and water with natural sweeteners.

Owners of kiosks in schools will have to change the proposed menu, and machine operators for selling food and drinks placed in schools will have to replace their contents.

According to the latest data from the Ministry of Health, almost 18 percent of secondary school students are overweight and 13 percent are obese. Among the pupils of the first grades, 12 percent are overweight and 9 percent are obese.
