Excessive consumption of salt has long been considered dangerous to heart health, but new evidence suggests quite the opposite - according to Canadian scientists at McMaster University, a lack of salt in the diet can increase the likelihood of cardiovascular disease.

In a study that involved more than 130,000 people from 49 countries, experts examined the relationship between salt intake and heart disease and stroke. It was found that, regardless of blood pressure - normal or high - insufficient salt intake was associated with more frequent heart attacks and strokes.

According to experts, reducing salt intake reduces the pressure slightly, but at the same time negatively affects the levels of certain hormones in the body, which leads to adverse effects.
