Scientists from Liverpool University found that dogs are more likely to bite emotionally unstable people. This is stated in a report published on the website of the Journal of Epidemiology & Community Health.
According to the study, dogs in most cases bite strangers, not their own owners, as well as people prone to severe mood swings. Scientists note that the probability of an aggressive dog reaction increases in proportion to the age of the "victim".
Of the 694 participants in the test, a quarter (172 people) were attacked at least once. It also became known that men are 1.8 times more likely to experience hostility from the four-legged, and the owners of several dogs are 3.3 times more likely than those who do not have pets.
The survey was conducted among residents of Cheshire in the north-west of England. Respondents completed a questionnaire for analyzing the mental state and reported whether the dog had ever attacked them.
