Another impetus for the domestic pharmaceutical industry was the program to reimburse the state for the cost of certain drugs.

The devaluation of the hryvnia in 2015 prompted Ukrainians to give preference to affordable domestic medicines instead of expensive imported. This quickly affected the situation on the whole pharmaceutical market: an increase in the proportion in kind (by the number of packages sold) stimulated local companies, despite the crisis, to invest additional funds in production facilities and new products. Now the next impulse for the domestic pharmaceutical industry was the program of reimbursement - compensation by the state for the cost of certain drugs. This is reported by experts from Pro-Consulting.

In 2017, the domestic pharmaceutical market has finally begun to recover. As a result of last year, the volume of the Ukrainian market in purchasing prices was $ 2.1 billion, or 53 billion UAH. For the first time since 2013, growth in dollars was recorded (+ 11%). Trade with the outside world also showed a positive trend. In-kind exports of Ukrainian medicines increased by 17%, and imports - by 12%.

In packs, the market for the fourth consecutive year shows a negative trend. At the end of 2017, the fall was 5% - to 1.42 billion packs. However, this trend did not concern dietary supplements (biologically active additives) - this group of goods grew by 2%, thereby increasing its market share to 6.4% in UAH and 5.4% in packs.

Last year the main driving forces in the region were prescription drugs and preparations of local manufacturers. The distribution of the market between national producers and foreign in kind amounted to 68 and 32% respectively. In monetary terms, the situation is somewhat different. In the hryvnia the distribution of the market remained at the level of 2016 - 33 and 67%.

The prices for medicines in 2017 as compared to 2016 increased by 20%. Weighted average cost of one package of Ukrainian medicinal product increased by 14.7% and amounted to 31.4 UAH. And the average cost of an imported drug increased by 8.8% - to 128.3 UAH.

In terms of money, the most sold drugs are drugs that affect the digestive system and metabolism, as well as drugs for the cardiovascular and nervous system.
