To confirm the theory, the scientists conducted an experiment where they tested the effect of McGurk at the time of obtaining different types of information.

Research staff at Nottingham University found that the dominance of the visual channel of perception of data is formed with age. The older people become, the more often they hear what is not in reality.

The researchers invited different groups of people to participate in the experiment and showed them a woman who pronounced one and three syllables: "ba", "da" and "ga". The difficulty was that the sound track both corresponded and did not correspond to what was said.

Hearing this or that sound, people gave auditorially similar answers, for example, "da" and "tha" could be considered as one syllable. It turned out that with age, the effect of McGurk is gaining momentum. The adult participants told that they heard "da" when the syllable "ga" was sounded a little differently (47%), whereas in the children-respondents this indicator was less than 37%.

Over the years, the number of correctly recognized visual stimuli became greater, but the correctness of recognition of auditory data decreased.
