Scientists from the University of Toledo conducted an important experiment American chemists from the University of Toledo determined that the blue color of light negatively affects the vision.
The authors of the new work stated: the light emanating from gadgets or another source influences important molecules in the retina of the eye, which under its influence turn into "killers" of living cells. This process provokes the development of incurable macular degeneration - a chronic progressive dystrophic disease of the central area of ??the retina, leading to blindness.
Researchers emphasize that the destruction of the retina occurs precisely when exposed to blue light on the photoreceptors of photosensitive molecules, making these molecules toxic and therefore deadly for almost any cell type. When irradiated with yellow, green or red light, this phenomenon is not observed.
"The cornea of ??the human eye is not capable of reflecting blue. Given that the eyes are constantly exposed to blue light, irradiation causes death of the photoreceptor cells of the retina, which are responsible for the perception of the brain by light. This leads to a gradual deterioration of vision until complete blindness, "- said researchers at the University of Toledo.
According to their data, the effect of blue radiation activates processes that contribute to a sharp increase in the concentration of calcium in the cytoplasm, which leads to cell death of the cell.
This principle, as the scientists could see, works only in photosensitive cells, but also in other cells. During the experiments with photoreceptor cells of the retina, which were added by their specialists to neuronal, cancerous and cardiac cells, irradiation with blue light provoked the "killing" of the retina molecules of all three cell types with which they were combined.
Note that in everyday life, blue light waves are reflected from PC monitors, smartphones or from LED lamps.
