Compliance with a vegetarian diet can help people with type 2 diabetes to lose weight and prevent death from cardiovascular disease, say US scientists. According to the data received, the refusal of meat normalizes the level of insulin and cholesterol in patients, protecting them from the occurrence of heart attacks and strokes.

Figures show that 60% to 70% of people with type 2 diabetes die from heart disease. The new work demonstrates that the risk of death can be easily prevented by observing a vegetarian diet - it can simultaneously reduce heart problems and allow better control of type 2 diabetes.

It is believed that natural food, rich in fruits, vegetables and whole grains, benefits the health of the heart due to low fat content and high fiber content.

In the course of the tests, experts analyzed 9 studies on the effect of vegetarian diets on people with type 2 diabetes. In total, 664 people participated in the studies. It was found that diabetics can benefit from vegetarianism by reducing the risk of developing cardiovascular disease and normalizing insulin levels.
