Scientists from the United States presented their studies, whose purpose was to find out why the maximum frequency of heart contractions decreases with age (which makes it impossible for such intensive physical exertion as in youth).

This problem is the main cause of worsening athletic performance in athletes after reaching a certain age. It is believed that the body becomes older and slower, but why does it happen?.

So, an older athlete with a pulse rate of 120 beats per minute can train harder than a young athlete, whose pulse at the same time reaches 150 beats per minute.

Scientists came to the conclusion that age-related changes inhibit the spontaneous electrical activity of the natural pacemaker driver, the sinus node.

Scientists conducted experiments on animals - the old animals were given the maximum possible load, as well as the young.

It turned out that the heart of the old animal simply could not work in the same rhythm that the young. The reason is in the limited potential of the electrical signal generated by the cells.

The scientists note an interesting fact - in spite of the fact that the maximum frequency of cardiac contractions decreases with age, all people are able to increase the capabilities of their heart according to their age due to regular sports activities.
