One of the alternative forms of vitamin B3 makes the body believe that it constantly lacks calories, and it rejuvenates the heart and blood vessels and slows down aging, according to an article published in the journal Nature Communications.

"We were the first to check how this relatively new substance affects the body of those who take it for a long time. Our experiments have shown that a person tolerates it well and that this compound includes part of the same gene chains that are activated with a lack of calories, "said Doug Seals of the University of Colorado in Boulder,.

Experiments conducted on worms, mice and other animals back in the 1960s showed that a diet with a reduced number of calories significantly prolongs the life of animals. Over the following decades, biologists isolated dozens of genes and hormones potentially involved in this phenomenon, but none of the substances found could ever learn to use to prolong life.

According to Sils, scientists have long been trying to find chains of genes and proteins that are included in the lack of calories and protect the cells of key organs from decreasing and accumulating mutations. In parallel, other groups of researchers are looking for hormones and other signaling molecules that would include these "genes of longevity" and prolong a person's life, but would not make him hungry or undernourished.
