Monitoring the health status in all its details can be a really complicated and overly biased process - however, this trend is actively changing with new developments designed to improve the diagnosis of various diseases and conditions of the body. That's why a talented team of engineers from the Higher Tufts Engineering University decided to contribute to this matter by offering the general public a new type of unique microsensors attached directly to the teeth and allowing to track the amount of glucose, alcohol and salts being delivered, while passing this information to a separate device on wireless technology.

The article with this invention will soon be published in the scientific journal Advanced Materials, but for now developers explain what is the main difference of these sensors from all previous similar developments. In particular, past developments often suffered from frequent wear, the need to be wired to a device that receives information, as well as from limited functionality.

However, the development of a team of engineers from Tufts University is built on the use of a much more flexible and functional technology that easily coexists with an unconventional - from the point of view of biology -. The microsensor itself is a 2 by 2 mm object consisting of three layers - the middle one being a bioactive layer absorbing the incoming food connections, and the remaining two perform the function of the antenna, transmitting radio frequency information.

However, it should be noted that the microsensor itself possesses very high chemical flexibility - for example, if too much ethanol or salts fall on the middle layer, its electrochemical properties change, allowing the sensor to radiate a slightly changed type of radio frequencies, which would indicate an excessive use of these substances. This development is very promising and, most likely, very soon will find itself a solid niche of use in medicine and in the diagnosis of diseases.
