However, in our time and in this field, traditional surgery is gradually supplanting laser treatment. To remove the darkened lens, a so-called femtosecond laser is used, that is, a laser beam of ultrashort pulses.

The main advantage of this method is its accuracy: the laser beam is so thin that it dissects only those places that must be cut without affecting the surrounding tissue. The cut thus becomes so small and thin that it overcomes itself, and it usually does not even need to be sewn (but in some cases it is still done).

This operation is possible only for adults, since their eyes will not grow in the future. For her, local anesthesia is used with the help of special eye drops, although at the patient's request he may be given general anesthesia.

Femtosecond laser destroys the clouded core of the lens, turning it into an emulsion. He also opens the cornea and lens membrane, and the cut in the latter turns out to be flawlessly round - so it's easier to insert into it a coiled artificial lens, the so-called intraocular lens, abbreviated IOL. Incidentally, during the same operation, you can at the same time adjust the curvature of the cornea, if this is necessary.

After the IOL turned in the capsule of the lens, the operation was completed.

Now the patient needs some time to avoid physical exertion, wear a bandage on an operated eye and instill medical drops into it in order to avoid inflammation.. Since it is extremely rare for cataracts to hit only one eye, in a few days, it will probably take an operation on the second lens - they are not done at the same time.

In the future, a person will see perfectly into the distance, for reading he will need glasses with diopters.
