Many fantastic films and books feature medical nanorobots. In the game Rage with their help even explained the survivability of the hero. But for the time being this is mostly fantasy. Or not?.

At Purdue University, USA, microrobots measuring 800 by 400 microns were developed, which can be driven by magnetic fields. Microscale magnetic robots (? TUM or microTUM) use tiny magnets for movement, and in the middle part of the robot there is a capsule for a medicine or other preparation.

It is assumed that such machines will be able to deliver drugs in vivo and directly to the desired organ or part of the body. It is noted that? TUM are able to move even in a strong current of biological fluids. To do this, they can literally "cling" to the right body. As noted, during testing, the robot was able to overcome the slope to 60 degrees.

It is noted that such robots work better in a damp environment, that is, inside the body.

In the long term, the system will receive control by looking at and increasing the payload. In particular, the middle part of the robot, where the load is located, is planned to be made soluble.

Of course, such robots are still far from the real nanomachines, but they are almost comparable to the diameter of a human hair 50-90 microns.
