It is worth saying that all children (well, almost everyone) like sweet dishes. They gladly drink sweet compote, eat sweet biscuits, sweet berries and fruits, as well as all sorts of cakes, cakes, sweets. The bad news is that children get more sugar (almost 16% more) than recommended by dietitians 5-15% of the total number of calories the child should consume per day, according to the Internet edition for girls and women from 14 to 35 years old Pannochka. net Sugar, sugar, sugar ... Probably everyone is well aware, in what culinary products add sugar? Nevertheless, we will try to recall that sugar is used as an ingredient in many processed foods such as bread, cakes, soft drinks, jam, ice cream ... Besides, sugar is always separately on the dining table, so that it can be added to the already cooked food. Sugar, which gets to children with food, is in many different forms: white sugar, brown sugar, raw sugar, corn syrup, corn syrup with fructose, malt syrup, maple syrup, pancake syrup, crystallized fructose, liquid fructose, honey, molasses, anhydrous glucose, crystallized dextrose and dextrin.

In whatever form sugar is presented, the bare, uncovered truth is that sugar means empty calories (without nutrients, just calories) that lead children to the risk of developing obesity and to health problems that may already appear in adolescence.

How much sugar do children use In order to objectively estimate these percentages, we will give the average for boys and girls indicators how many sugar spoons a day are consumed by children at a certain age and how many calories they get:.

At the age of 2-5 years, children consume an average of 13 teaspoons of sugar, which corresponds to 208 calories; in 6-11 years, children consume up to 20 spoons of sugar per day, which corresponds to 320 calories; in 12-19 years the child consumes about 24 teaspoons of sugar per day (about the same amount of sugar an adult consumes).

Somewhat surprisingly, most of the calories from sugar children get from food, and not from drinks. And you can add that the house consumes more sugar than in school or in other public places where children can eat.

How to reduce the consumption of sugar You can ask what parents can do to banish sugar from their kitchen. It's not as difficult as it might seem, it's just necessary to follow a few simple rules.

• Desserts and sweets. Limit the number of home cookies, sweets and other bakery products. Instead, try to offer the children fruit desserts, berries, dried fruits.

• Cereals. Limit the addition of sugar to cereals. Prepare cereals from whole grains such as oatmeal, but do not add sugar and / or salt. It is better to add nuts, fruit or cinnamon; if you want, add a mixture of a variety of fruits and nuts.

• Yoghurts. 230 grams of plain yogurt contains about 12 grams of natural sugar. This is what is included in the general pointer on the label.

Many flavored yogurts contain even more sugar. Avoid them and choose simple yogurts, in which you can add your own sweets, such as berries or other fruits.

•Beverages. Give preference to water and unflavored milk (in most cases). Limit the consumption by the child (and not only the child) of sweet juices, sports and other flavored drinks.

Outcome: Check the list of ingredients for everything that is sold in the package. Ingredients are listed in order of decreasing their number. If you see sugar (under any name it is at the top of the list), reconsider your decision to purchase this product. Is there a better option? Could you make this dish home without sugar or reducing its quantity?.
