The benefits of vitamin C are known even to schoolchildren, but as scientists in Sweden have been able to take it at their own discretion "for the prevention and strengthening of immunity" can be very dangerous. In particular, it was found out that vitamin C can act badly on the kidneys.

Swedish researchers from the University of Carolina have warned that self-medication with vitamins is extremely risky for health.

The large-scale project of the Swedes allowed doctors to conclude that people who constantly take "ascorbic" increased the risk of kidney pathology.

"The intake of higher doses of vitamin C doubles the risk of kidney stones," says the researchers at the University of Karolin.

For 11 years, they monitored changes in health in 23,355 men who by the beginning of the experiment did not suffer from kidney disease.

During this period, 436 people were diagnosed with nephrolithiasis (renal stone disease). Scientists have analyzed the features of their lifestyle and established a link between problems with kidney and vitamin intake.

"If the subjects daily consumed vitamin C as a food supplement (1000 mg), the risk of developing nephrolithiasis was significantly higher than those who did not take any food supplements," doctors told about this correlation.
