American scientists from the University of Wisconsin were able to obtain an absolutely complete fragment of the retina of the eye from blood cells, according to an Internet publication for girls and women from 14 to 35 years old Pannochka. net To obtain a new fragment of the retina, specialists used immune blood cells. Researchers have reprogrammed T-lymphocytes into induced pluripotent stem cells (IPSC). The next stage was the cultivation of the retina.

It was stressed that during the research it was possible to create a completely normal retina consisting of photoreceptors and neurons.

Also, scientists have achieved the multiplication of new retinal cells and the creation of synapses for subsequent generation.

As experts say, in the near future it will be possible to grow "spare parts" of the eye for use in ophthalmology. The obtained results of the study will be used for testing new drugs and for detailed study of visual disturbances.

Recall that not so long ago, scientists learned to use the retina to diagnose a brain tumor.
