Doctors of Ha-Emek Hospital conducted the world's first operation to transplant a bone fragment grown in the laboratory.

Until now, this was not possible, and patients were forced to go through a long and painful process of bone grafting from another part of the body.

Israeli doctors have developed an innovative method to grow the missing parts artificially. The patient took fragments of fatty tissues and isolated from them cells that are responsible for the formation of tissues and blood vessels. These cells were grown in the laboratory for two weeks.

Live graft was injected with a special syringe, now the tissue will continue to grow already inside the human body. The process of complete formation of the missing part of the bone takes several months.

"The patient did not have a bone fragment in his legs five centimeters long. The doctor introduced in this place thousands of particles of live implants that we have grown in the laboratory, and within a few days this area will begin to be filled with cells of growing tissue.

In two months, the patient will be able to walk, "says Dr. Shai Maritski, CEO of Bonus Bio Group, who developed this innovative method of treatment.

According to experts, such operations are suitable for elderly people, and patients with osteoporosis, and cancer patients who have removed the bone site due to a tumor. Doctors expect that in the future this method can be used in aesthetic medicine to help undersized people.
