American scientists have found that human food preferences affect the onset of dementia.
Specialists from Tufts University have decided to check whether there is a link between food intake and Alzheimer's disease. To do this, they for 8 months fed laboratory mice with products of animal origin, as well as saturated fats and sugar.
They found that over time, they increased the activity of specific brain cells - microglia - which caused inflammation and increased the risk of dementia.
Scientists have found that 25% of Alzheimer's cases are due to malnutrition and physical inactivity.
