Scientists from the University of Binghamton in New York found out what people need to eat at different ages to improve mood and maintain mental health.

During the tests, experts analyzed the nutrition and level of exercise among young people and people of mature age. Participants completed an online questionnaire that assessed the diet, lifestyle and mental health. The results showed that young people aged 18 to 29 improve mental health when they train regularly up to three times a week and eat meat. People who do not do this much more often suffer from mental disorders. According to experts, eating meat and physical activity lead to the accumulation of certain chemicals in the brain that contribute to mental well-being. It's about neurotransmitters of serotonin and dopamine that increase mood.

At the same time, people over the age of 30 are useful to consume fruits and vegetables rich in antioxidants, and avoid caffeine and sweets.

Neglect of this rule can lead to an increase in heart rate, increased blood pressure and sweating. As the aging levels of free radicals in the body increase, so the need for antioxidants increases, experts say. Free radicals cause disturbances in the brain, which in turn increases the risk of mental disorders. In addition, the ability to regulate stress also decreases with age, so eating food that activates a stress response (such as coffee or sweets) can lead to mental health problems.
