Nordic (Scandinavian, Norwegian) diet lowers the level of harmful cholesterol and increases the level of "good" cholesterol. To this conclusion came the researchers from Lund University.

The so-called Nordic diet is characterized by the use of berries, vegetables, beans and cabbage. You can also eat nuts, poultry, fish, rapeseed oil and low-fat dairy products. The experimental group followed this diet for 18-24 weeks. Participants in the control group modified the Nordic diet a little - they ate butter instead of rapeseed, consumed less berries and vegetables, did not limit the amount of red meat and white bread.

It's interesting: Asthma medicine will help save hopelessly sick liver.

The researchers wanted to find out how changing the nature of food affects the main components of the metabolic syndrome, namely insulin resistance, high blood pressure and lipid profile.

As a result, no significant changes in the level of blood pressure and insulin sensitivity were detected. The weight of the body also did not influence the Nordic diet. However, the lipid profile was significantly improved - the level of low density lipoproteins ("good" cholesterol) increased and the level of high density lipoproteins ("bad" cholesterol).
