The use of a large number of proteins after 45 years helps maintain a healthy body weight.
These are the results of a recent study conducted by scientists from the University of Florida (Florida State University) in Tallahassee, USA.
"In those study participants who consume more proteins, we note a smaller waist girth, a smaller body mass index and a lower body fat content. Our results suggest that the current recommendations of the Dietary Reference for Intake for Estimated Average Requirements should be revised towards a significant increase in the protein quota, "said Dr. Ann Brown, lead author of the study, in an interview with Medscape Medical News.
The results of Dr. Brown's study were presented at the 62nd annual meeting of the American College of Sports Medicine.
Previous scientific studies have suggested that a diet high in protein can reduce the risk of obesity, but the effect of such a diet on other anthropometric parameters and the optimal daily protein rate remained in question.
In the course of her last work, Dr.
Brown's team analyzed a cohort of participants in the Boston Puerto Rican Health Study (BPRHS) - a study involving Puerto Rican people residing in Boston.
The cohort included 960 people aged 45 to 75 years. Men (1/3 of participants) had a BMI of 32 kg / m ?, an average age of 60 years. Women (2/3 participants) had a BMI of 30 kg / m ?, an average age of 59 years. Latin Americans were selected for work not by chance - they often have obesity complications.
