Researchers at the University of Birmingham (UK) say that consuming 500 ml of water 30-60 minutes before a meal helps obese people lose weight faster, according to an Internet publication for girls and women aged 14 to 35. Pannochka. net They are sure that this simple and safe tool should be recommended together with weight loss programs.

For their scientific work, they selected 84 adult obese volunteers who were observed with local doctors.

The study lasted 12 weeks. Initially, all participants were given the same advice on the fight against obesity, advised to change the lifestyle and diet. Then, 41 participants were told to drink 500 ml of water before each meal, and the remaining 43 were supposed to imagine, before meals, that their stomach was full (control group).

The results showed that the first group who drank water before meals lost an average of 1.3 kilograms of control group over 12 weeks. And those who drank half a liter of water before each meal, lost 4.3 kg, and those participants who did this only before one meal or did not follow the advice at all - only 0.8 kg.

Dr. Helen Parretti, a professor of medicine at the University of Birmingham, explains: "These results are excellent in their simplicity. Regular drinking water three times a day before meals can be the key to more effective weight loss. If you follow the rest of the instructions, set up food and move, then water will give you an advantage. This is something that is not hard to put into our busy daily schedule ".

The participants themselves were also inspired by this simple advice, so most of the group followed him with pleasure. But we note that the cola, sweet water and other high-calorie drinks were not considered by scientists.

The authors of the study are going to organize in the near future more extensive work to confirm the effectiveness and safety of their method, then to introduce it into traditional programs to combat excess weight.

The results of the work were published in the journal Obesity.
