An international group of genetic scientists conducted a study and found that some of the genes that are responsible for intelligence also affect other characteristics, including life expectancy.

In the process of studying the scheme of probable transmission of intelligence "by inheritance," scientists found that certain genes have a correlation with a number of characteristics. In particular, mediated communication was observed between high intelligence and longevity.

Scientists have collected data on more than 100 thousand people, and then combined it with data on another 300 thousand people. They drew attention to the level of education of participants in the study, which was recognized as an indirect indicator of cognitive abilities, on their life expectancy, as well as a number of other indicators.

When comparing data on the genomes of different people, specialists identified a number of genetic variations. They turned out to be associated with both a higher average intelligence and longevity. In addition, geneticists have found that certain genes simultaneously affect a person's cognitive abilities and the likelihood of developing autoimmune and certain mental illnesses.

Despite the result, the scientists urge not to build the results to the absolute:

yes, genes can in fact affect intellect, potential life expectancy and so on, but they represent only one factor that means no more than a way of life and environment.

Nevertheless, the authors of the study believe that their work will create new drugs to help people with diseases such as schizophrenia, Alzheimer's disease, attention deficit disorder, hyperactivity and a number of other problems. In addition, specialists expect that their research will better understand how a person gets new knowledge.
