A bruise is the most common type of damage that can occur both independently and accompany other more serious injuries (dislocations, fractures, internal injuries). Most often we meet with bruises of the skin and subcutaneous tissue, but it is possible and a bruise of internal organs (bruise of the brain, heart, lungs).

Clinical signs of contusions of the soft tissues of the extremities or trunk that occur most often are pain in the place of application of force and traumatic edema. After a while (the term depends on the depth of the hemorrhage), the skin appears bruised.

By its size it is impossible to accurately judge the strength or character of the strike. So, with deep bruises or with increased brittleness of the vessels (with hypovitaminosis C, in the elderly), there are extensive bruises descending downwards relative to the site of injury under the influence of gravity. The color of the bruise is an important criterion for determining the duration of the injury.

In case of a bruise, first aid should be given: fix the place of the injury, apply a sterile bandage and apply ice.
