Endocrine disruptors hide in many cosmetics and hygiene products, which is most dangerous for young girls and women who apply makeup daily, lotions, creams and other chemical cocktails.

A new study showed that the transition to environmentally friendly cosmetic products makes it possible to reduce the effect on the female body of phthalates, triclosan and other harmful substances by 27-45% in three days.

The results of this study, organized by Dr. Kim Harley of the University of California at Berkeley, were published in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives.

Omnipresent and insidious phthalates.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warns that phthalates are widely used for the production of plastic packaging, detergents, soaps, shampoos, hair sprays, nail polish and many other cosmetic and hygiene products.

Getting into the human body, these substances are metabolized and in a modified form are excreted in the urine. Although the effects of low doses of phthalates are still a matter of controversy and conjecture, CDC experts accuse them of violating the functions of the reproductive system.

"To assess the effect of phthalates on the human body, more research is needed, but experiments in laboratory animals have established that phthalates affect the functions of the reproductive organs," the official statement of this authoritative body.

Earlier, after conducting a large nationwide study, the CDC concluded that the absolute majority of US residents in urine contained a certain amount of phthalate metabolism products. And in women their level is higher than that of men. In other words, all these people (especially the female half of the population) somehow received doses of phthalates from cosmetics, water, etc..

Toxins are withdrawn within three days.

The latest study shows that among adolescent girls who regularly use cosmetics with phthalates, parabens, triclosan and hydroxybenzone, the level of corresponding metabolites in the urine.

"How does this affect girls - can only guess. But our experiments on rodents show that many of these substances negatively affect the endocrine glands and reproduction. Since women are the main consumers of cosmetics and hygiene products, they are in the zone of maximum risk. Not only do young girls go through a stage of intensive development of the reproductive system, they even more often use similar products than mature women, "Dr. Harley expresses her fears in an interview with MNT.

Urine samples of 100 Latin American girls who participated in the project Health and Environmental Research on Makeup of Salinas Adolescents (HERMOSA). Scientists analyzed the content of metabolites before switching to a special environmentally friendly cosmetics and 3 days after that.

The results of the analysis showed that the content of diethylphthalate (flavor) products decreased by 27% within 3 days, the content of methyl and propyl parabens by 44% and 45%, respectively, and the level of triclosan and benzophenone-3 (BP-3) by 36%.

Co-author of the study, Dr. Kimberly Parra (Kimberly Parra) believes that these results should be used for the benefit of young people.

She suggests to inform school girls and college students more widely about the possible risk of traditional cosmetics and recommend them to change their products, switching to more environmentally friendly formulations without phthalates and parabens.

"We have clearly demonstrated that the transition to cosmetics and hygiene products that do not contain phthalates, parabens, triclosan and BP-3 can significantly reduce the impact of endocrine disrupters on the female body," the scientists concluded..
