Glistami (in the medical terminology of helminths) is called parasitic worms and their larvae. There are a lot of helminth species that harm a person, but most of them are either rare ("accidentally"), or only in certain geographical areas.
In the European part of Russia and the CIS countries, intestinal nematodes or round helminths parasitizing in the lumen of the intestine (ascaris, pinworm). Significantly less frequent are other nematodes parasitizing the wall of the intestine or other organs (hookworm, nectar, trichinella, intestinal ugliness, etc.. Almost no children have such worms as flukes (trematodes) and ribbon helminths (cestodes), which are not eaten by raw or thermally insufficiently processed meat or fish, unwashed vegetables and fruits, unboiled water from natural water bodies,.
Over 90% of all helminthic diseases in Moscow children are caused by intestinal nematodes.
Roundworms are round in diameter across worms with pointed tips, white in color, often translucent, ranging in length from a few millimeters to 10 -15 centimeters. Ascarids parasitize mainly in the small intestine, not attaching to the wall of the intestine, but being in the lumen and constantly making a move in the direction opposite to the movement of food. Therefore, it is difficult to detect ascarids in feces. Periodically, feces are allocated microscopic eggs ascarids, invisible to the naked eye, but the allocation of eggs is not every day, which makes it difficult to diagnose ascaridosis by feces. The life span of ascarids without anthelminthic therapy may be several years.
Pinworms - small, up to 1 cm long, often curved, whitish-colored parasites. The lower parts of the small and large intestines serve as the habitat for pinworms, so pinworms are more likely than ascarids to be seen in feces.
At night, pinworms are selected on the skin, where the folds lay eggs. In girls, they often crawl into the external genitalia, causing irritation and infection of the mucous membranes with bacteria, protozoa, fungi. The life expectancy of pinworms is up to 1.5 months, but due to the huge number of eggs laid, their numbers are constantly restored and the disease, without treatment, can last for years. A condition when a child has pinworms is called enterobiosis.
