Turmeric is known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, which make it not only a tasty seasoning, but also a valuable alternative medicine.

The main active component of turmeric is curcumin, one of the substances responsible for the appetizing yellow color of the product.

He is credited with the ability to kill cancer cells and heal chronic inflammatory diseases.

A new study showed that curcumin successfully fights with resistant mycobacteria tuberculosis, one of the most terrible infectious diseases in the history of medicine. This is reported by the journal Respirology.

Resistant (resistant) to treatment of tuberculosis is alarming for Western experts, because this infection continues to thrive in the poorest countries of the world and hangs over the rest of humanity with a guillotine.

Employees of the University of Colorado in Denver (USA) were looking for a natural medicine against tuberculosis and found that thanks to curcumin our macrophages efficiently clean infected cell cultures from mycobacteria that do not respond to antibiotics.

The researchers explain that the matter is in the activation of a cellular molecule called the nuclear factor kappa-bi (NFkB), which regulates the immune and inflammatory processes when invading infections or tissue damage.

"By our work we justified the use of curcumin in infections caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The protective role of curcumin with resistant tuberculosis still needs confirmation, but we hope that we have found a powerful alternative medicine, "said the author of the study, Dr. Xiyuan Bai.

While developing countries are struggling with resistant tuberculosis, last Thursday the US Central Clinical Center announced that the incidence of "regular" (non-resistant) form of tuberculosis in the US, which had been declining for several consecutive years, suddenly grew in 2015.

What is the reason - the increased influx of immigrants or other problems - the agency does not report.

Recall that tuberculosis is transmitted from person to person by airborne droplets, usually during sneezing and coughing. The bacterium of tuberculosis, as a rule, affects the lungs, but it can affect other organs, including the kidneys, the brain, the spine. In the absence of treatment, tuberculosis is fatal.
