Most of the venous pathologies are the enlargement of the veins and its consequences: superficial thrombophlebitis, acute venous thrombosis, postphlebitic syndrome or stasis syndrome.
1 - ETIOLOGY AND PATHOPHYSIOLOGY What is meant by the expression "widening of veins"? This is an enlarged superficial, bizarre sinuous pattern of a vein with a tonal valve. The venous network of superficial and deep femoral veins is most often affected, but the secondary branches of the superficial venous system. Typically, they occur after 20 years, but women are more likely to manifest themselves during puberty, during pregnancy or at the beginning of menopause.
In men with this disease, the symptoms progressively increase in the period from 10 to 70 years without significant jumps.
The etiology of this disease is mostly unknown. But we know that aggravating factors include fluctuations in the hormonal background in women, an increase in intra-abdominal pressure, and a fairly rare arteriovenous fistula. An important role is played by the hereditary factor, but it has not been sufficiently studied.
2 - SYMPTOMATICS First of all, the enlargements of the veins attract the attention of the patient with their unaesthetic appearance, and, secondly, the appearance of certain symptoms during prolonged stays in the standing position. The patient complains of a feeling of heaviness in the legs, which appears with fatigue and progressively increases by the end of the day.
Raising the legs up, above the torso significantly reduces the severity of the symptoms.
Because varicose dilatation is a consequence of deep vein obstruction, insufficient venous valves and poor condition of perforating veins, the symptoms are further aggravated and edema appears.
The process proceeds as follows:.
• Extension of superficial veins • Feeling of heaviness in the legs • Deaf pain • Feeling of fatigue? Appears when walking and standing? Passes after rest and when raising the legs to a height of nedug. en.
