Stop blaming fast food and endless sitting in front of your computer, according to an online edition for girls and women from 14 to 35 years old Pannochka. Scientists say that the real culprit of adolescent obesity is the deficiency in the body of the special hormone spexin (spexin), which is involved in the reduction of the walls of the stomach and is secreted by the cells of the submucosal layer of the upper parts of the digestive tract.

Dr. Sima Kumar of the Mayo Clinic Children's Center in Minnesota, USA, says they have completed the world's first study on the effects of spexin in adolescents.

According to the findings of scientists, a low level of spexin at an early age leads to an excess proliferation of adipose tissue with the subsequent development of adolescent obesity.

As is well known, it plays an important role in the regulation of arterial pressure, fat and water-electrolyte metabolism.

In the course of her latest work, Dr. Kumar compared the level of spexin in the blood of adolescents with leptin, adiponectin, C-reactive protein, glucose and insulin.

The project involved 51 adolescents with obesity and a control group of 18 participants with a normal weight.

It was found out that in adolescents with obesity the average concentration of spexin was lower in comparison with the control group. Teenagers with the lowest scuxin levels were 5 times more likely to gain weight - this was a huge difference that can not be explained by other factors.

"We understand that our cross-sectional study does not give a definitive answer, we need to further study the physiological significance of the spexin. If this peptide hormone really protects against obesity, then in the hands of doctors can be a powerful tool, "says Kumar.

Recall: according to rough estimates, about 35% of American children are overweight or clinical obesity.

Every year, only the medical expenses for the tougher young generation of America exceed $ 14 billion, not to mention indirect costs.

Low self-esteem and psychological problems, a violation of social adaptation, reduced ability to work, income and quality of life, a bouquet of severe chronic diseases - all this, perhaps, can be avoided with the help of one mysterious hormone.

More information about the results of the study can be found in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism.
