Scientists from the University of California at San Diego managed to find proteins in human skin that are "natural antibiotics": they are able to prevent the development of skin infections.

To do this, experts examined skin samples of patients with atopic dermatitis and psoriasis. It was found that atopic dermatitis contributes to the appearance of specific substances - interleukins, which inhibit the production of two proteins: LL-37 and HBD-2.

In psoriasis, interleukins of a different type are formed, which do not affect these proteins, and infection does not develop.

One of the authors of the study, Dr. Richard Gallo, believes that LL-37 and HBD-2 are resistant to infection and can be used in medical cosmetics: "Unlike conventional antibiotics that kill only bacteria, proteins also suppress viruses and fungi. For many thousands of years, these "living medicines" developed in the human body, so you can hope that they will not cause side effects ".
