Increased consumption of coffee reduces the risk of ovarian cancer by 20%, while the rejection of alcoholic beverages and cigarettes does not affect the risk of this disease.

This conclusion was reached by American scientists on the basis of a long-term study spanning more than 120,000 women.

At the disposal of the authors of the work published in the journal Cancer, there were data from studies involving more than 120,000 American nurses at the age of 30-55 years. For a number of years, women have regularly filled in questionnaires with questions and dietary preferences, bad habits and so on.. The medical database of the participants. For the period of the study, ovarian cancer was detected in 507 women.

In general, the results obtained by the scientists were found to be disappointing: the risk of developing cancer was virtually independent of alcohol consumption, as well as from smoking, the length of service of smokers and the number of cigarettes they smoked daily.

At the same time, a statistically significant association was established between the risk of ovarian cancer and caffeine consumption. In a group of participants who consumed 500 or more milligrams of caffeine a day, malignant disease developed 20% less frequently than those whose daily caffeine dose did not exceed 136 milligrams. 500 milligrams of caffeine are contained in about five cups of strong coffee.

Previous studies have revealed a reliable link between a reduction in the risk of ovarian cancer and factors such as the birth of children and the use of hormonal contraceptives.

Recall that a few days ago another group of scientists came to the conclusion that even moderate consumption of coffee is associated with an increased risk of miscarriage in pregnancy. However, in recent years, coffee has found many useful properties: according to various studies, this drink can protect a person from kidney cancer, reduce the risk of developing gout, Parkinson's disease, and even alcoholic cirrhosis.
