Dislocation of the lower jaw (temporomandibular joint) - displacement of the articular head of the mandible in relation to its normal position.

Causes of dislocation of the lower jaw occurs when the mouth is opened excessively, bruises. Most often there is anterior dislocation, when the articular head of the lower jaw is shifted forward on the articular tubercle or in front of it. Dislocation can be unilateral or bilateral.

Symptoms of dislocation are accompanied by pain, poor and painful jaw mobility. Speech is difficult, the closing of teeth is broken.

There are two-sided dislocation (both joints of the lower jaw are displaced) and one-sided. With a bilateral dislocation, the mouth does not close, with one-sided jaw shifts to a healthy side.

Diagnosis is confirmed by X-ray.

Treatment of Dislocations should preferably be corrected in the first hours. When refreshing the patient should sit on a low stool or chair, so that the guide has the opportunity to act with the arms extended at the elbow joints. I need to wrap a finger with a napkin or towel.

Lower jaw to grasp with hands so that I fingers were fixed on the alveolar bone (or teeth) in the molar area, and the rest covered the jaw from the outside. It is necessary to exert a slow pressure on the jaw downwards, without jerking, and then, lifting (overturning) the chin, to direct the forces simultaneously to the back.

Usually the movement of the joints to the joint fossa is accompanied by a characteristic click or a crunch. After correction, the jaw must be fixed with a soft sling-visible bandage, recommend a sparing diet, restriction of opening the mouth for 1-2 weeks.
