Swedish doctors are alarmed by the spread in the society of the mania of a healthy lifestyle - orthorexia. And they call those who think about proper nutrition for more than 3 hours a day, turn to specialists - psychologists and nutritionists.

Orthorexia (from the Greek. «Ortho» - correct) - a mental disorder manifested in possession of a healthy lifestyle, based on proper nutrition and regular training with a heavy load. This "right", as a matter of fact, aspiration can lead to problems with mentality and infringements in a delivery.

According to experts, it is difficult to determine exactly how many people in Sweden suffer from this disease. But, according to Madeleine Mesterton, the founder of the Swedish Association Against Dysfunctions of Nutrition, over the past 5 years, they have been approached significantly more by those "who train with the perseverance of the fan and eat only very healthy food".

"It seems to me that young people today are under very strong pressure. According to her ideas, one must be skinny and well-trained. In addition, the media is constantly bombarded with advice about what you can not eat, what you need to eat and how to train, "she said..

For a long time ortorsics look athletic and healthy. Orthorexia grows out of ordinary and regular things, brought to the point of absurdity. Its peculiarity and at the same time the complexity of its treatment - the patient's confidence that he is doing the right thing, acts for the good of his organism and lives healthier than others.

As a result, orthorexic has a constant fear of getting sick or getting better, he has a serious deficiency of necessary substances in the body - a state of "hidden" hunger. This affects the work of the heart, causes a decrease in the amount of calcium in the body and premature wear of joints. But first of all ortorexia is dangerous because it can develop into anorexia - a complete refusal of food.

The term "orthrexia" was proposed by the American physician from California Stephen Bratman in 1997. He called it "a complex of proper nutrition". Bratman in his youth was a member of a large commune, which was engaged in the cultivation of organic products. He ate exceptionally fresh vegetables and before swallowing a piece of food, chewed it exactly 50 times.

Such pedantry brought Stephen to a nervous breakdown, which he called "orthorexia". Later, Bratman even wrote about this problem the book "Addiction to useful products: how to overcome obsession with proper nutrition".

According to statistics, the victims of orthorhysis are most often women from 30 to 50 years of age, middle-income, working, but not too fond of their work, with serious problems in their personal lives. In men, orthorhysis often accompanies the experiences of the "middle age crisis".
