Reusable diapers: what they are

Many mothers for various reasons have to use multiple diapers. Someone chooses them for the sake of economy, someone from the desire not to pollute the environment with tons of used disposable diapers, someone's child has such sensitive skin on the ass that no "diapers" can be used without the appearance of diaper rash. We did not do without tissue diapers and we.

In search of a solution to the problem of intertrigo (various ointments and baths gave only a short-term result) and as the baby grew we had to try different options. It turned out that there are many types of reusable diapers, each with its own pluses and minuses.

Classic gauze diapers My acquaintance with reusable diapers began with the classic gauze that our grandmothers used, and perhaps their grandmothers too. These diapers are a folded in several layers of gauze about the size of about 45x45 cm, stitched around the edges with an overlock or zigzag. Such diapers can easily be sewn by yourself, or you can buy inexpensively at the store baby products.

The finished diaper is folded into three layers - a rectangle is obtained that is placed under the baby's ass and ... here comes the mother's fantasy: how to fix it on the child? I initially tried to fix a wide elastic band with Velcro, but it caused skin irritation in the baby, I had to abandon this method and seek advice from the experienced mothers of the older generation. It turned out that usually these diapers do not really fix anything - they just put on panties on top or tightly swaddle the baby's legs with a diaper.

The advantage of these diapers is cheapness and availability.

A weak place - a bad fixation on the baby. In panties such diapers can be lost and shifted aside. The diaper fixes the diaper better, but the babies grow quickly, they need to move their hands and feet, and sooner or later, they will have to give up the swaddling of the baby, and hence from this way to fasten the diaper. In addition, many moms who today completely refuse swaddling and prefer to wear their children from the first day in clothes that do not hamper their movements.

The disadvantages of these diapers can also be attributed to their low moisture capacity. If the kid at least once pee, then you need to change not only the diaper, but the panties (or the diaper in which he was wrapped), and the sheet on the bed. True, this problem can partly be solved if the diaper thickness is increased. How? Use not gauze as a foundation, but a bike or flannel - it is thicker and can absorb more. Also, as a diaper, you can use a normal calico diaper folded several times to make a rectangle of about 12x45 cm. And although this kind of reusable diapers has many minuses, yet it is the most common, it is used, enjoyed and probably will be enjoyed by many mothers.

Triangular fabric diaper.

Diapers of this kind of mother make of diapers, preferably square. The diaper should be folded with a triangle, put under the child with the wide side of the triangle up, the lower corner of the folded diaper should be placed between the legs of the baby and put on the tummy, and the side ends fix the diaper on the child's torso.

The undoubted advantage of this kind of diaper is that there is no need for something extra that would fix it on the baby.

This also makes it possible to keep the baby in one diaper without any clothes. For example, during feeding it will allow to keep contact "skin to skin" and will give the chance to stroke the baby, without being afraid of being stained with "childish surprises".

But even though such a diaper is fixed on the child, it is not very strong. And as the baby grows, the more the baby moves, the faster the diaper falls off.
