Resynchronization of heart function improves clinical outcomes in patients with heart failure. This is due to the influence on vegetative regulation of work and increased sympathetic tone.

Dr. Philip B. Adamson and his colleagues (Oklahoma City Medical Research Center, Oklahoma City) observed 50 patients with heart failure (HF) and an implanted biventricular pacemaker (InSync Model 8040). The working or non-operating state of the resynchronization system was determined randomly.

The state of autonomic regulation of the heart was assessed by heart rate variability (HRV). With an increased sympathetic tone, an increase in HRV means that the vegetative regulation of the heart's work is improving - it is also affected by parasympathetic tone.

It turned out that with resynchronization HRV becomes significantly higher (p = 0. 02), despite the same duration of the atrial cycle in each intervention group.

Between the group differences in the levels of catecholamines initially and in the dynamics was not revealed, scientists write in the release of Circulation.

"Resynchronization of heart function reduces the adverse effects of hypertension in the sympathetic system in patients with severe heart failure," US researchers believe. "This is associated with the reverse development of ventricular remodeling, and can also lead to improved patient functionality and quality of life".
