Physicians have long known that sometimes the effectiveness of the joint intake of antibacterial drugs can have unpredictable results. In some cases, taking several antibiotics is accompanied by depression of their activity, other drugs in the pair show high efficiency.

In addition, situations are known where objectively weaker drugs are more effective in relation to one or another pathogen.

The thing is that among the colony of microorganisms there may be representatives with different sensitivity to the components of specific therapy. Scientists from the Harvard Medical School conducted a series of experiments on the effect on colibacillus combined therapy of doxycycline and erythromycin. With this combination, the result was well predicted: sensitive microorganisms perished, and sustained microbes continued to multiply.

Further, the experiment was carried out using doxycycline and ciprofloxacin, which are known that their combined use reduces the effectiveness of isolated medication. However, it was found that the resistance of microorganisms to the drugs used in combination depends on the dose of each drug. It has been experimentally proved that often microorganisms that have a good sensitivity to antibacterial drugs began to prevail over resistant to pathogenic agents. After this change in the composition of the microflora, a stronger antibiotic showed the maximum effect.

Despite the urgency of this problem, while the introduction of this method of selection of therapy is complicated by many factors that accompany the daily routine of our medicine. But this approach to treatment is the same light at the end of the tunnel.
