Walking is a great way to adjust and maintain health. However, conversations during walking can negate the benefits of this type of physical activity and even cause harm to health. This is evidenced by recent medical research.

The results of the work, conducted by scientists from the University of Queensland, were presented at the last meeting of the Australian Society of Neuropathologists, which was held on January 30 in Melbourne.

According to the study, conversations during walks lead to the need to engage deep located abdominal muscles, which threatens to disrupt the stability of the spine.



Associate Professor Paul Hodges notes that the abdominal muscles are very important for maintaining the spine.

"If you talk while walking, then in order to communicate freely, you involuntarily need to inhale quickly and exhale slowly," notes Hodges. In this situation, the central nervous system, which is responsible for controlling musculature, encounters conflicting signals entering the brain, it is at these fleeting moments that the spine remains practically unprotected ".
