Is it really horrifying that over the years your skin is more like the skin of reptiles? Do not worry, but you are much less likely to develop basal cell carcinoma.

So says a dermatologist from Manchester, Christopher Griffiths. Dr. Griffiths, observing the patients entering the clinic of skin diseases, where he works, noted that those who are operated on for basal cell carcinoma tend to have very few wrinkles. Its contribution to the appearance of both, and the other makes the sun. Probably, some role is played by the mechanisms of tissue repair that work in people with smooth skin.

A group of researchers led by Griffiths developed a "wrinkledness" scale on which 1 corresponds to the smallest number of them, and 8 to the largest. 239 people were examined. All of them were white, since representatives of this particular race are most susceptible to the disease. Average age - 70 years.

The results showed that in 90% of cases, those who had a wrinkle index of 5 and higher less likely to have carcinoma than those with whom it was 2 or 3. Smooth-skinned participants in the experiment, that is, the most susceptible to the disease, had white skin that does not tan well. The condition of the blood vessels on their face indicated that they received the same dose of solar radiation as the owners of a large number of wrinkles.
